“You fixed the link problem!” says an observant anon

NOT SO. In fact, the person who fixed the link problem is not me, but none other than the magnificent shippingwithshockblankets, who waltzed into my inbox and was like “I come bearing gifts, by which I mean the solution to the fact that you’ve confused everyone so much that people can’t figure out how to reblog from you”. (Not in those words, obviously.)

The lovely chunk of code Brook sent me worked like a charm, which means that when you go to Otherwordly’s main page and click on any of the word images, it’ll take you right to the post, making reblogging easy as pie. Thanks, Brook! You’re brilliant.

myblueprintproject asked: Is it possible to like or reblog entries on your page? I haven't been able to reblog anything to my page.

You’re not the only one to ask this question recently! Let me see if I can explain more thoroughly.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that I link the images (you know, the white ones with the black text) back to the main page: other-wordly.tumblr.com. Whenever you click the image, whether you find it on Otherwordly itself, on your dash, on someone else’s blog, it just takes you back to the first page, not a page where you can like or reblog.

But if you’re starting from 1. the main page, 2. a URL that looks like other-wordly.tumblr.com/page/#, or 3. a URL that looks like other-wordly.tumblr.com/tagged/… (you can click those links for examples of each), you need to look under the image and the caption. There’ll be a grey link that reads Posted __ hours/months ago with __ notes along with the word’s tags.

Click that, and it’ll take you to the word’s permalink page, where the URL will look like this: other-wordly.tumblr.com/post/########. There, you can look in the upper right corner and find the ‘Like’ and ‘Reblog’ buttons.

If you’re still having trouble, check out this other answered ask, which has pictures, or message me again.

Anonymous asked: hello sweetheart! i'm so happy that i found this blog, nice job! so, i wa wondering, can i use your images as a banner? i didn't take out the "other-wordly" thingy off the image! xxoo

Go for it! As long as the URL stays intact, I’m totally fine with you using images off this blog.

To clarify some previous posts, the only thing that bothers me is people reposting over reblogging; yeah, the URL might still be there, but the tumblr sharing system is based on the concept of the reblog, not on people actively typing in a URL they see in the corner of an image. Reposting directs traffic away from this blog, which is not what I’d like.

But using images for things other than actually creating a new tumblr post is generally awesome, so knock yourself out!

Anonymous asked: I still can't figure out how to reblog from your site???

All right, here’s a quick step-by-step.

1. Start by going to other-wordly.tumblr.com—that’s the main page. It looks like this:

2. See where it says “click here”? That link reads “Posted __ hours ago with ____ notes”. That’s the link you click to get to the static address of each post. It’s different for each word, but there’s a similar link under each post on the main page. Click that.

3. You then arrive at this page:

That’s the static address. Click the “reblog” button (boxed in red).

4. Now you’re here:

Click the “reblog post” button boxed in red, and there you go.

(Please don’t hesitate to ask me questions, even if they seem simple! But it’s usually easier to for me to answer privately rather than publicly, so try to use your tumblr name instead of anonymous if you feel okay with it. Thanks!)
