Would it worry you if I told you that I’ve been turned into a zombie and am not, in fact, alive?

It’s finals week, so I guess I only feel like a zombie. I’m not actually a brain-devouring undead monster. Yet. Even though I haven’t been updating, I do have a list of posts done up—a paper queue that I just haven’t translated into a Tumblr queue—and I’ve been trying to answer asks when I can.

But, even if finals kill me, I will be back! Expect new posts by the end of next week. You guys are all great—your love of words (and your patience) makes me super happy.

Other things:

Yes, Otherwordly is getting published into a real paper-and-ink book, by a crazy awesome publisher by the name of Chronicle Books. It’s going to be gorgeous and I’m so excited!
No, the book is not out yet. Yes, I will be sure to let you know when you can buy it. Don’t worry, I’m probably going to be quite loud about it.
I’d like to run a contest/giveaway sometime soon, but I’m still thinking about it.

“What are some books you suggest? Have you read The Book Thief before?”

I remember reading that book for the first time. My dad and I were in a cabin in the mountains—it was winter, he was asleep, and I was curled next to the radiator in the room’s only chair. I’d had to crack open the bathroom door for light. I read in that yellow light, mouthing the same lines to myself twice or three times.

It was some awful early hour in the morning when I reached the last pages and burst into tears and just couldn’t stop. That’s what good writing does. It brings us to the part of ourselves where we aren’t ashamed to cry.

“I am haunted by humans.” Death says this, in the book, and I think I know what he means. I’m haunted by humans, and by stories like this one. I absolutely recommend The Book Thief. It makes me cry literally every time I read it and it is an actual masterpiece.

Other gems are I Am the Messenger, also by the author of The Book Thief, and also makes me cry every single time—read it I cannot stress that enough; The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood; The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, in particular The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle; Looking for Alaska by John Green; Peeps by Scott Westerfeld; Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman; Beauty by Robin McKinley.

My actual list of book recommendations is much longer, but a lot of it is children’s/young adult fantasy, with a smattering of science fiction. If that’s also what you like, you can ask me about that.
