Anonymous asked: Just wanted to share my opinion, I really don't like the new origin thing in the bottom right. It ruins the minimal aesthetic of the picture. When it was all white, the complexity was spotlight on the word and its definition.

Man, I just can’t win, haha. I used to agree with you; I’m big on the “minimal aesthetic” of this blog and I’d gotten accustomed to the images being just word, definition, URL. Anything more seemed like too much.

But you would not believe the number of messages I kept getting asking me to include etymology or word origin in the posts. I decided that adding a slightly distracting and unattractive but very tiny origin to the corner was worth not having so many messages come in with the same request. (And that’s the best place for it, by the way—I tried everywhere else.) It’s worked great so far, so I’m afraid I don’t have any intention of changing it.

I think it’s a bit harsh to say that it ruins the minimal aesthetic, though! It’s still plain black text on a plain white background. That’s about as minimal as it gets.
